Constructive Criticism? ...it didn't feel that way

The morning was uneventful.  I had lunch with Martica here at the house.

Monday after leaving the foundation, about half an hour later Carolina called my cell phone saying she received notice that we had left (the foundation).  I let Yonseili answer and tell her that we just did not want to talk to her today, simply because we were not in the mood.  I would have felt bad, but she never really checked in with us regarding our volunteer work as she is supposed to.  We told her we'd talk to her Tuesday at around 2:30, but we didn't go yesterday either because -honestly- we were not in the mood again.  Finally today we decided to get it over with.

We said everything.  Carolina was upset about everything but what really bothered her is that Carmen had no problem asking us for materials.  Apparently Carolina and the Academia have made large amounts of donations of materials.  It has all been recorded and filmed.  Hmmm... so what's going on?  When we went into her office Carolina said she had heard the 'foundation's' side of the story so she wanted to hear ours.  Apparently it was only Carmen and Narcisa (the teachers) who talked to her instead of the director.  They said we left because all that was done was that the rules of the foundation were explained to us.  One word for the entire chaos: shady.  As we told Carolina everything I felt like a tattle-tale.  I kept reminding myself it was for the better of the foundation, better of the kids.  A lot of info was exchanged and I just hope they can do better.  We now have to fill out an evaluation on the place.  Carolina will go with Paty to talk to the director and the teachers with those evaluations to have 'evidence.'  The Academia obviously can't continue to make donations or help if shady things are going on.  The head of the foundation needs to get straightened up before they try to straighten up any of the kids.  I hope that our evaluations improve the foundation.

By the way Vincent did surprise us with his presence when we walked into Carolina's office.  And before leaving her office she invited us to a chiva organized by St. Gallen House, the hostel that belongs to Yonseili's ex-professor.  So we decided to go.

We were at the hostel by 10 as Carolina said.  We waited for a while and then another while.  Ecuadorians really never are on time.  We ended up leaving at about 10:45, 15 minutes after what the Chiva was supposed to leave.  Many were upset because the Chiva had seats, I was happy.  I did not want to relive my first Chiva experience of standing feeling embarrassed in a moving vehicle where the music was 'bumpin' and the people are dancing and getting happy with the Canelazo.  Good thing this time I had Yonseili with me.  Many were also upset because they didn't get the Canelazo fast.  The guy next to me dropped some drink on me, whatever it was... great.  But what else can I expect from a moving vehicle where drinks are being served?  Anyway, so many of us got off the Chiva before it arrived to the destination (Bungalow) because the Chiva was boring.

By far the worst night during my stay here.  It was too crowded and I was saddened to see the things that I did.  Not worth talking about.  Peace out.

Self explanatory

Highlight of the day: Getting home... what a relief.  My bed felt amazing.

  1. i believe your hunch about 'shady' may very well be on point. it also appears that the director (right hand) and the academy (left hand) may not know what the teachers are really doing.
a casual observation: if the guys pee in public, what do the women do? or, are they not out partying like the men?
third world, or culture? who knows?
